Our Experience

The Cut Redevelopment Scheme

Client:

The Cut steering group (London Boroughs of Southwark, Lambeth and Cross River Partnership.)

Project:

The Cut is a busy high street which spans Lambeth and Southwark.

The street is lined with many businesses including shops, bars and restaurants. Historically, waste and rubbish containers were left on the streets outside premises, causing obstructions and unsightly views.

London Remade Solutions (LRS) was called upon to lead the waste management element of this complex redevelopment scheme. Through the implementation of a new commercial waste system aesthetics along The Cut were improved and obstructions removed, in keeping with the streets regeneration.

Solution:

Having conducted a range of site surveys and inventories we recommended an enforcement based solution introducing time slots within which bins can be placed on the designated ‘refuse marker’ spots outside of premises for collection.

We designed, produced and distributed communication materials to businesses within the area and spoke with waste companies at an early stage to guarantee they were clear about the changes being put into practice in The Cut.

We also played a large part in gaining the backing for the scheme, obtaining agreement and political buy in from all project partners.

Outcome:

In March 2008 The Cut became “one of the greenest and cleanest streets in London”, having undergone a sustainable and innovative refurbishment.
