Feasibility study: the waste wood supply chain
Client:
London Borough and waste management contractor
Project:
LRS was commissioned in 2010 to carry out a feasibility study to examine the available waste wood supply chain, the economics of processing this through Northumberland Wharf and by barge to Tilbury as a reference market, and to assess the costs against road transport.
Solution:
The study examined the supply of wood waste in all its forms for a 10km radius from the wharf. It took the form of desk based research followed by a survey by telephone across the main sectors within the supply chain: waste management companies; construction, demolition and excavation waste (CDEW) operators, transfer stations and CA sites, construction companies and developers, wood recyclers, and skip hire companies.
Outcome:
A costing model was constructed covering the whole operation from receipt at Northumberland Wharf and delivery by river to a reference destination, a wood recycling company based at Tilbury, that had previously expressed interest in taking part in the study.
