Our Experience

Feasibility assessment of the options for collective waste contracting and commercial food waste collection across the SBEG area

Client:

South bank Employers Group (SBEG)

Project:

South bank Employers Group is a Business Improvement District (BID) operating across the South Bank, Waterloo and Blackfriars.  LRS were engaged to assess the feasibility of setting up a collective recycling service for businesses across the area (to include food waste).  The research formed part of the Lambeth Carbon Reduction Project which aimed to increase the resource efficiency of businesses in the area.

Solution:

LRS conducted interviews with member businesses across the area to assess the appetite for the introduction of a collective recycling service, which would help to increase their recycling rates, achieve cost savings and reduce vehicle movements in the area.  We also developed a number of example collective contracting models and assessed the potential to save money through the implementation of a collective recycling contract.

Outcome:

About half of the businesses in the area were interested in taking part in a collective recycling contract, if it meant financial savings could be achieved and the service was still convenient for them to use.  SBEG have developed a business plan to take forward the introduction of the service and it is currently being considered for roll out in 2012.
