Our Experience
Demonstrating best practice in waste facility visitor centres in the UK
Client:
Cory Environmental
Project:
Cory Environmental is developing a proposal to build and manage a residual waste facility to treat the waste arising from a UK County Council.
As part of the proposal Cory was requested to demonstrate its ability to create a leading visitor centre as part of the facility, which would provide benefits and promote inclusion for all the stakeholders in the local community.
Solution:
Cory Environmental has engaged LRS Consultancy to help to develop the thinking behind the visitor centre, communications and engagement programme and the approach to social inclusion. Our objective is to ensure that we demonstrate best practice in relation to both the facility and the services that it provides.
Outcome:
LRS has undertaken extensive research into visitor centres both in the UK and internationally, and from within the waste sector and a range of other industry sectors. As a result of our findings we have provided a narrative for the Cory Environmental proposal around the following aspects:
- Building the centre from sustainable materials
- Building for low carbon management and maintenance of the facility
- Generating high quality educational and awareness raising materials and site tours
- Creating an interactive learning environment suitable for a range of stakeholder including both adults and children
- Developing effective messaging in relation to climate change, resource depletion, waste and resource management and preserving the local environment
- Engaging all stakeholders in the community from local education establishments to businesses, hobby groups and local authorities in the development and use of the facilities
- Providing indoor and outdoor spaces, exhibitions, materials and signage which are DDA compliant to enable disabled visitors to get the maximum out of their experience at the facility
- Generating community opportunities through the innovative use of indoor and outdoor services
