Andy Marsh

Andy has over seven years experience in the waste management sector and is an experienced project manager. Since joining London Remade in 2004 and transferring to LRS Consultancy in 2006 he has managed a wide range of waste management and recycling projects in both the private and public sector. These projects have included operational reviews, strategic planning, communication and behaviour change, marketing programmes, market research, technological reviews of collection and disposal methods and programme implementation.
Andy is and IEMA qualified auditor and has undertaken pre-assessments for SMEs and large public and private sector organisations. Since 2010 he has also been an auditor for the Mayor of London's Green Procurement Code and in 2011 he became a Smart Green Business Advisor.
Prior to joining London Remade Andy worked for Waste Watch as a Team Leader and Recycling Researcher on the Re3 Programme in Reading, Wokingham and Bracknell Borough Councils. The role involved the collection and analysis of data on the councils’ collection schemes through participation rate monitoring and face to face interviews with residents.
Andy also worked for the Department of Environment and Catchments Protection in Perth, Australia for two years as a volunteer Waste Project Assistant. Andy gained experience in developing communication materials, workshops, outreach work and website development
Beth Simpson

Beth has over nine years of experience working for and with local authorities’ waste and recycling departments. Over the years Beth has worked closely with both local authorities and their waste contractors so has acquired a perspective of service development and delivery that encompasses both view points.
Her areas of expertise includes both service strategy development and delivery, gathering, analysing and interpreting service performance data and behaviour change planning. Beth has been responsible for developing and managing a wide range of projects. These include, food waste feasibility studies, service performance reviews, service delivery plans and waste flow modelling. As well as facilitating workshops within organisations to identify service delivery issues and solutions, residents’ attitudinal surveys, focus groups and participation monitoring.
Between 2008 and 2012 Beth has worked with Veolia on their PFI contract in the London Borough of Southwark, where she heads up the LRS team delivering technical and communications support to Veolia. Initially she was responsible for establishing and managing the recycling and communications team (consisting of Veolia and LRS employees) as well as writing and delivering Veolia’s contractual annual Action Plan. This Action Plan outlines the communications and stakeholder engagement strategy for the contract over a three year rolling period as well as technical changes / expansions to the waste, recycling and composting services Veolia intended to make during that period. During 2011 she co-ordinated the implementation of a food waste collection service and alternate week collection of recycling and residual waste. In this role Beth worked across the different sections within the contract (collections, disposal, communications and IT) to ensure a smooth roll out was achieved.
For the past year she has worked with the London Borough of Camden and their waste contract Veolia ensuring the borough’s priority waste projects are progressed. These include the introduction of timebanded collections for commercial waste collection services, the street cleansing service review and a collection service options review.
Debbie Hitchen

Debbie manages sales, marketing and corporate relationships and the strategic direction of LRS' business operations. Her responsibilities include: modelling and planning for business development and new business growth; competitor and market place analysis; business risk assessment; governance; the sales cycle and analysis; quality standards; partnerships and client relations; marketing, communications and events; knowledge and talent management.
Her background includes four years in the Sustainable Development Division of a local authority (Surrey County Council) managing waste minimisation, waste awareness and recycling; followed by four years in a leading compliance programme for producer responsibility (Valpak) ; communicating legislative obligations and latterly creating an operational service to collect glass for recycling from the commercial sector (Recycle-more-glass). Prior to undertaking her current role at London Remade she spent two years in the Green Procurement team where she managed a business development capital fund for product developers. She was also involved in the development of the Inspired Recycling and London Remade East programmes which provided business support to designers, small businesses and specialists in the recycling sector; and developed and managed the services to the NHS.
Debbie has developed a broad range of skills during her 14 years of employment and is experienced in both technical sustainable waste management and stakeholder engagement/consensus building.
Dee Moloney

Dee brings extensive experience of delivering high quality consultancy work to both public and private sector clients at all points within the resource efficiency loop (design and manufacture, procurement, collection and reprocessing). Her role at London Remade, prior to her current position, was to lead on all local authority work; providing recycling technical support to local authorities, developing strategies and recycling plans, working in partnership with the authority’s officers to manage the implementation of new projects and recycling collection services from kerbside and HWRCs, assisting with work studies for crew resource efficiency, collecting data and delivering reports to evaluate performance. Dee continues to be involved in the design and management of many of our local authority engagements.
Dee has strong relationships and networks within the Local Authority recycling community through her work on the development of www.capitalwastefacts.com and the high profile Recycle Western Riverside project which Dee continues lead for LRS, providing technical assistance and advice to the four Boroughs in improving and implementing recycling infrastructure. More recently she has worked with Veolia Environmental Services on their PFI for the London Borough of Southwark, planning the delivery of communications, community engagement and recycling technical support for this project. Dee is a regular attendee at industry events and stakeholder sessions including ALCO, LROG and LEDNET and is a member of the CIWM.
Ellen Struthers

Ellen has extensive expertise in the strategic and technical aspects of developing, monitoring and managing waste and recycling schemes, including waste prevention and effective communications.
Her experience spans from waste and recycling policy and process development to operational implementation of new collection services for dry recyclables and organics.
She is recognised as a leading expert in recycling schemes for flats, and has developed national guidance on this on behalf of WRAP. She has also trained over 100 local authority officers on developing and improving recycling and food waste collection schemes for flats including communication techniques and monitoring and evaluation.
Ellen has managed several high profile programmes for local authorities including the 2007 – 2009 local authority twinning and mentoring programme, the Recycle Western Riverside Campaign, the Capital Waste Facts website and London Remade’s local authority support service.
Since December 2008 Ellen has spent several days a week on secondment in the waste and recycling team at the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. Her work there has included:
- Improving policies and processes
- Reviewing household waste and recycling data to improve performance and inform service decisions
- Managing the recently outsourced community engagement programme
- Developing a partnership trial for flats recycling
- Overseeing the roll out of the food waste service
- Organising workshops to inform operational planning processes and managing the development and delivery of subsequent plans
Through the Recycle Western Riverside Campaign Ellen has provided support to the four Western Riverside Waste Authority constituent boroughs since 2003. She has managed the last three years of the campaign, which has included management of an annual budget of £245,000, developing and managing an annual work programme based on a review of the boroughs needs, management of a subcontractor that delivers the education programme and development of bids to secure funding for additional work.
Graham Randles

Graham is a Principal Consultant for sustainable procurement at LRS Consultancy Ltd. He is recognised as one of the leading experts in sustainable procurement and sustainable supply chain management in the UK. He was a member of the British Standards Institute (BSI) drafting panel for the sustainable procurement quality standard BS8903, until the launch of the standard in September 2010, and is qualified to train in sustainable procurement through the Marrakech Task Force training programme. He has had several articles published in some of the leading trade journals for procurement specialists.
Graham manages LRS’ projects and relationships with a wide range of clients and a variety of professional and government organisations, including the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS), WRAP, the Greater London Authority (GLA), the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) and the UK government’s Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).
Graham is responsible for the development and delivery of the Mayor of London's Green Procurement Code, a recognised standard of best practice for sustainable procurement in London and the UK. He leads the team which provides support to a network of over 700 public and private sector organisations through the provision of materials and tools, training, advocacy and engagement.
He is also the lead on the WRAP sustainable procurement training for the public sector project, which engages with the UK’s local authorities, higher education and health care sector.
Prior to joining London Remade, Graham gained 15 years experience as a senior commercial manager in the private sector and as a business development consultant.
Hugh Smith

Hugh has over 30 years of management experience across a range of functions including process engineering, production management, Industrial Relations, HR Management, Quality and Environment, Health and Safety. He has an in depth knowledge of waste management, reprocessing and recycling in both the public and private sectors and has worked at many locations in the UK, Europe and Internationally.
Since joining London Remade and LRS Consultancy, one of his roles has been the strategic management and development of the LDA funded Enhance business support programme between 2004 and 2008, which included administering the £1.5 million capital grants programme, and developing and managing projects from applicants to the fund. During the Enhance programme, Hugh was responsible for managing the team that delivered over 1,000 advice sessions and more than 1,500 consultancy sessions to SMEs and social enterprises needing business support and capacity building. Support included business planning, access to finance, change management, risk assessment, sales and marketing planning and support, material supply analysis, access to markets and franchising. Hugh has also managed commercial due diligence assessments on waste reprocessing proposals for one of the major banks.
Many of the projects managed by Hugh at LRS are consortia or partnership projects, and he has gained significant experience and capability in relationship and team building, enabling these projects to be delivered on time, within budget and to high levels of quality and customer satisfaction. Clients include WRAP, LDA, Transport for London, GOL, SEEDA, EA, Local Authorities and several major waste management companies.
During 2008/09 Hugh acted as adviser to the London Waste management board in developing their long term business development strategy, prior to their restructure in 2009.
During his 30 years at Xerox, Hugh was responsible for gaining the RSA Environmental Management Award 1993 followed by the European Better Environment Award for Industry 1995 (Sustainable Development through Waste Reduction category). He also secured three consecutive RoSPA Gold Awards whilst Health and Safety Manager.
He was also Chairman of Trustees of Croydon Arc for 5 years, a successful social enterprise in the white goods and furniture reuse sector.
Jonathan Winfield

Jonathan is an experienced environmental manager with an undergraduate degree in International Relations, an MSc in Environmental Management and associate membership of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA).
With experience across a variety of public and private sectors in both the UK and Americas , he is able to advise organisations on their environmental impacts and help implement the required planning, strategy and governance for change. Working for TNT Express Logistics, he produced a range of communication tools to guide staff in how to talk with customers and the media about environmental issues. Working for Virgin Holidays, he assisted in the development and embedding of a corporate responsibility strategy and implemented an EMS to the standards of ISO14001. In this role he also worked directly with hoteliers across the USA, Caribbean and Africa to manage and reduce their environmental and social impacts, with a specific focus on energy and water efficiency, waste reduction and recycling. At LRS he specialises in research and implementation for businesses to assist them to reduce their environmental footprint.
Sarah Griffiths

Sarah is a Senior Project Manager at London Remade. She has a wide range of waste management and recycling expertise gained from four years working across the public and private sectors. In her previous role working for a London based private waste management company Sarah has designed and implemented multiple, tailor-made recycling schemes for a wide range a clients. Her key skills include analysis of waste data arisings and analytical report writing, which have been put to use compiling environmental reports for several key City firms. She has good project planning and management skills as well as strong communications skills.
Since joining London Remade in February 2007 she has managed both operational recycling projects as well as communications and behaviour change projects. These projects have included; running local authority focus groups to engage residents in the design of recycling schemes, recruiting SMEs to a recycling service through a comprehensive communications and marketing programme, and inputting into the design of communications materials for a recycling initiative at a major venue

Claudia Amos has twelve years experience in all relevant waste technologies covering non-thermal and thermal waste treatment concepts. Claudia is a highly experienced Project Director and Project Manager and has led complex teams on a number of large scale procurement projects and framework contracts for WRAP, Defra and the Environment Agency.
Claudia has long term, direct experienced with all stages of the local authority procurement process, specialising in competitive dialogue support including waste flow assessments, technical support and bid evaluation. She has worked on PFI procurement projects for Local Authorities in Buckinghamshire, Dorset and Gloucestershire as well provided technical and environmental dialogue support to bidders on a number of projects throughout the UK incl. Cheshire, Derbyshire, Merseyside, South Tyne & Wear, South Devon, Staffordshire, Leicestershire, Hertfordshire and lately Essex and Bradford.
Claudia has in-depth knowledge of waste treatment technology performance throughout the waste hierarchy including traditional and novel processes gained through over 250 technology assessments on behalf of the industry, Local Authorities and public bodies such as Defra, WRAP and the Welsh Assembly Government..
Claudia Amos joined LRS in 2012, after working at Enzygo for two years as Technical Director. Before she spent six year with RPS Planning & Development, where she led the waste team for 3 years responsible for a substantial team providing professional consultancy support on waste procurement projects, regulatory and waste policy advice, waste arisings and capacity studies, WRATE modelling as well as renewable and waste technology assessments.

Paul has 25 years of experience in the waste management industry having most recently held the position of Deputy Chief Executive of Veolia’s waste business in UK . Paul joined VES following their acquisition of Cleanaway where Paul was Director of Recycling , Disposal and Municipal Services . From 1999 to 2004 Paul was based in the USA , latterly as President and General Manager of the CHEP Pallet businesses in Asia Pacific, Africa, Latin America and Canada. Paul is also a non executive director and/or advisor with a number of businesses, and is actively involved in a variety of relevant industry and environmental organisations. He has just concluded a two year term as a member of the CBI's London Region Council and is a former board member of the Environmental Services Association.
Peter Crome

Peter is an experienced consultant with a strong track record in waste management from collection to disposal. His experience spans from local authority waste policy work and undertaking market research for strategic planning for waste management to consulting with and advising businesses, organisations and residents on resource efficiency and recycling. He has worked with Business Improvement Districts, promoting schemes and undertaking surveys; conducted interviews with key stakeholders for the development of a regional strategy on waste management and regeneration; and has also conducted interviews with businesses to assist in the development of new waste and recycling collection schemes.
Peter worked as part of a small team to deliver WRAP’s national Recycle at Work programme in Greater London and more recently the Smart Green Business programme for Cross River Partnerships. These programmes involved advising SMEs on resource efficiency and making recommendations on how best to implement recycling schemes and waste minimisation. Peter has also worked on a project with the South East England Development Agency that targeted SMEs in a region in East London to improve recycling rates in the area.
He has been involved in several market research projects, contributing to infrastructure planning and the development of waste strategies and recycling schemes.
Peter manages LRS Consultancy’s team of project support officers who undertake research, monitoring and field work.
Tim Duke

Tim is an accomplished marketing communications and public relations professional with eight years’ experience developed across consumer agency, business to business, private, not for profit, consultancy and public sectors; including four years in the environment industry. He is experienced in developing and implementing integrated communication strategies, websites and working in partnership.
Since March 2008, Tim has been working in the London Borough of Southwark under contract to Veolia Environmental Services, delivering an integrated communications programme promoting recycling services and campaigns to Southwark’s residents. Tim has gained significant expertise preparing communications protocols, developing brand guidelines, developing and delivering integrated communications strategies, working with contracted third parties, copy writing and integrating work with national campaign branding developed by WRAP and regional campaign branding developed by Recycle for London.
Tom Newman

Tom has a back ground in geography and environmental issues having graduated with degree in geography and environmental management from the university of the West of England in Bristol in 2004. Prior to working at LRS he has been employed by the Ordnance Survey in Southampton as a photogrametric technician, helping produce high quality aerial photography of the UK.
Tom has been employed by LRS since August 2007. He initially began employment as a support officer during which time he was involved in a number of field work projects, largely for local authorities. During this time he developed skills in participation rate monitoring, committed recycler surveying and conducting estate inventories.
More recently Tom has been employed as a Project Officer and is on full time secondment on the Veolia Southwark contract. In this role he has gained experience and knowledge in waste minimisation, particularly in promoting use of real nappies. He is also experienced in siting protocol regarding near entry and bring bank recycling schemes and has used this to deliver recycling containers to a large number of buildings in the London Borough of Southwark that otherwise had no recycling provision.

Peter Johnson has extensive experience in the waste management sector, and is the former Corporate Development Director of Cory Environmental, which he founded in 1981. He spearheaded Cory’s growth, in London and beyond, to become one of the leading, and most respected and profitable companies in its industry, delivering innovative recycling and waste management services to clients in both the public and private sectors.
During his career Peter has also served on the Environmental Services Association executive committee, the board of London Remade and a wide range of other industry bodies. He has a proven track record of consistently delivering growth and enhancing shareholder value. He is currently non-executive chairman of Bywaters (Leyton) Ltd, director of Parkside Environmental consultancy and a member of the LRS Consultancy Ltd board.
Derek Stephenson

Derek Stephenson is the President of StewardEdge. He has been directly involved in waste reduction and recycling since 1974 and offers more than three decades of experience in the conceptualization, design and delivery of complex, multi-faceted projects for private and public sector clients. Focusing on the development of municipal recycling programs, management of waste electrical and electronic equipment and municipal hazardous or special wastes, Derek has provided technical and strategic direction on waste reduction and waste diversion initiatives throughout North America and internationally.
Derek has an exceptional background in waste reduction and recycling technologies, and a thorough understanding of current trends and new developments. He is known for a keen understanding of environmental and waste related issues, exceptional negotiating skills, and an ability to reconcile diverse governmental, industrial and public interests. Derek is recognised as a leading expert on extended producer responsibility (EPR) programs and has worked on developing EPR programs in Canada, Australia, the United States, South East Asia and Europe. He has been chairman of the LRS Consultancy Ltd board since April 2009.
Samantha Dunn

With over 15 years experience, Sam has a unique blend of management and resource efficiency consulting (Accenture and LRS Consulting), FMCG industry (Unilever) and Public Sector (Cabinet Office) experience in Sustainability, Supply Chain, and Innovation. She has a proven track record of change management, stakeholder engagement and project delivery which includes business planning (S&OP), portfolio optimisation, operating model re-design, and process improvement.
Whilst at the Cabinet Office, Sam led a complex programme of work to promote and integrate sustainability into the UK Central Government's commercial processes and supply chains. This resulted in the development of a pan government vision and plan, a better understanding of the Green House Gas emissions of the supply base, and an improved awareness of how to procure more sustainable goods and services.
Whilst at Accenture, Sam delivered supply chain improvement and innovation projects across the Consumer Goods, Retail, Pharmaceutical and Oil and Gas industry sectors. This built on the solid operational experience she gained from 5 years at Unilever.
